Showdown Confirmed: Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis Set for November 14th Mega-Fight
In an unexpected announcement, combat sports reporter Andreas Hale revealed on August 21, 2025, that Jake Paul's next opponent will be WBA lightweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis. The highly anticipated bout is set for Friday, November 14, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta and will be streamed live on Netflix. This revelation surprised many, as Paul had been linked to a potential heavyweight clash with former unified champion Anthony Joshua, and Davis was expected to have a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. following their majority draw in March. Despite previous plans, Paul and Davis finalized an agreement on Wednesday for a fight between two of boxing's biggest names, currently labeled as an exhibition.
The decision to pit these two fighters against each other raises several questions, particularly given the significant weight disparity between them. Davis is a 135-pound world champion, while Paul, a YouTuber-turned-prizefighter, last competed at the cruiserweight limit of 200 pounds. This matchup, however, is not entirely out of the blue. In August 2021, Jake Paul publicly shared a "hit list" of desired opponents, which included Gervonta Davis. At that time, Paul's boxing record was 3-0, with wins over AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson, and Ben Askren. He has since fought several other names on that list, and Davis will be the fourth.
The primary drivers behind this fight are its immense cultural significance and lucrative financial upside. Both Paul and Davis are recognized as major attractions in boxing. Paul's events consistently draw massive audiences, and Davis has a proven track record as a box-office draw. Sources close to the negotiations indicated that earlier talks for this fight were put on hold after Davis's surprising draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March. However, Davis ultimately prioritized the higher payday against Paul, setting aside the Roach rematch for the time being. This reflects a trend in boxing where crossover fights, such as the 2017 bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor, have demonstrated the absurd financial potential.
The nature of the fight, whether it will be a "real" sanctioned boxing match or an exhibition, remains under negotiation. While both fighters are expected to give their all in the ring, the considerable weight difference is the primary factor leaning towards an exhibition classification. Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian stated that the contracted weight and number of rounds are still being discussed. Exhibition matches offer greater flexibility in rules regarding round length, glove size, and officiating. Crucially, they do not result in a declared winner and do not count towards a fighter's professional record, serving purely for entertainment.
This matchup draws parallels to the 2021 exhibition bout between Jake's older brother, Logan Paul, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. In that fight, Logan, at 189.5 pounds, faced a retired Mayweather, who weighed 155 pounds, with no knockout declared. However, the Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis fight presents different dynamics. Jake is considered a more skilled boxer than Logan, and Davis is still in his prime, unlike the retired Mayweather. Furthermore, there's a tangible element of "bad blood" between Jake and Davis, making the stakes higher. A loss for "Tank" could significantly damage his professional career, while Paul needs an impressive performance to solidify his standing as a serious boxer.
The fight also has implications for Jake Paul's long-talked-about heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua. While a Paul-Joshua fight was never expected in 2025, MVP confirmed it could still take place in 2026, provided terms are agreed upon. However, Bidarian acknowledged that a knockout loss for Paul against the smaller Davis could diminish public demand for a subsequent fight with Joshua. Paul, ever confident, stated, "First, I am going to kill David [Davis], then I will go on to slaughter Goliath [Joshua], and you are all going watch me do it." Meanwhile, the Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach Jr. rematch, initially rumored for August, was postponed when Davis opted for the Paul fight. Sources indicate Roach is planning a fall return, and a rematch with Davis could be revisited in early 2026, assuming both fighters are victorious and uninjured in their upcoming bouts. It was also noted that Davis's misdemeanor battery charge from Father's Day was dismissed earlier this month.
