Shockwave in Kebbi: High Court Judge Abducted by Bandits
A Kebbi State High Court Judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, was abducted by bandits from his home in Bunza Local Government Area shortly after returning from a trip. The police have confirmed the incident and deployed tactical operatives to ensure his safe rescue, while the High Court management is collaborating with security agencies.
Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, a High Court Judge in Kebbi State, was abducted by bandits from his residence along Zogirma Road in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The incident occurred on Sunday, specifically in the early hours of Sunday at about 12:00 AM on Saturday night, shortly after Justice Bunza had returned from a trip to Sokoto.
According to sources, the gunmen stormed his home and whisked him away. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers fired shots sporadically during the abduction, but fortunately, no other individuals in the house were harmed during the incident. The immediate aftermath saw reports being made to the appropriate authorities, including the leadership of the High Court.
The abduction was officially confirmed by SP Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Kebbi State Command. Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, promptly deployed tactical and intelligence operatives. These teams were tasked with ensuring the safe rescue of Justice Bunza, and as confirmed by the PPRO, personnel are actively combing identified locations, including forest areas, to secure his release alive and unharmed.
A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident as a deeply saddening development for the judiciary. The official stated that the management of the High Court had already convened meetings with heads of security agencies within the state to strategize on securing the judge's immediate liberation. As of the time of reporting, no group or individual had claimed responsibility for the abduction of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza.
