Shockwave in Country Music: Beloved Duo Maddie & Tae Announces Split, Future Uncertain

Country music duo Maddie & Tae, comprising Maddie Marlowe Font and Taylor Dye Kerr, have officially announced their professional separation. This news was confirmed by Billboard, following an initial report from People magazine, detailing the next steps for each artist.

Maddie Font is set to embark on a solo career, while Taylor Kerr will shift her focus towards her family. Kerr is married to writer-producer Josh Kerr, and they share two children, daughter Leighton and son Chapel. Font and her husband, Jonah, are parents to their son, Forrest.

Despite the separation, the duo expressed that their future collaboration is not entirely ruled out. Font stated to People, “We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day. We might go do some tour dates one day.” However, she clarified, “But just in this season. It doesn’t feel aligned for us to do it together.”

Kerr described the decision as “such a hard, hard — honestly, heartbreaking — decision.” She reflected on her lifelong dream, adding, “This was the only dream I’ve ever had since I exited the womb. I had a very specific vision of creating music and singing music. When we met at 15, that’s what we set out to do, and we’re both just so grateful that we’ve had the journey that we’ve had. This career has been everything we’ve ever wanted.”

Maddie & Tae have achieved significant success during their career, recognized for their Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hits such as “Girl in a Country Song” and “Die From a Broken Heart.” Their talent has also earned them nominations for the CMA’s vocal duo of the year every year since 2015. Over their tenure, they have released a substantial body of work, including four albums and four EPs, with their latest project being 2025’s “Love & Light.”
