Sam Levinson Opens Up on Angus Cloud’s Death and Why ‘Euphoria’ May End After Season 3

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has opened up about the emotional and production challenges surrounding Season 3, particularly the lasting impact of losing Angus Cloud, who died in 2023 from an overdose.

Levinson described the loss as deeply personal, revealing he had fought to support Cloud and now hopes to honor his memory through storytelling that explores faith, surrender, and resilience.

The production also faced another difficult moment with Eric Dane’s ALS diagnosis in February. Levinson recalled assuring Dane there was no pressure to return, but the actor insisted on continuing, delivering a powerful performance despite physical challenges.

Levinson praised Dane’s professionalism and even adapted scenes to reflect his condition, calling the experience of filming with the ensemble cast both emotional and unforgettable.

Meanwhile, the future of the series remains uncertain, with star Zendaya suggesting Season 3 may serve as the show’s conclusion during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, noting that “closure is coming.”

Levinson also confirmed he currently has no plans for Season 4, instead focusing on delivering a strong final installment.

Season 3 will feature a five-year time jump, pushing characters into new phases of life, with Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi’s characters now married, Zendaya’s Rue working to settle her debt, Hunter Schafer’s Jules attending art school, and Alexa Demie’s Maddy navigating Hollywood talent agencies.

Season 3 of Euphoria is scheduled to premiere on HBO on April 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with filming described by Zendaya as a fast-paced “whirlwind” that condensed eight months of production into four.
