Shocking Reveal: Fetty Wap Credits 50 Cent for Lifeline During Prison Stint

Following his release from a Minnesota prison after serving more than three years behind bars, rapper Fetty Wap granted his first interview to The Breakfast Club on Friday, January 9th. During the interview, Fetty Wap expressed profound gratitude towards fellow artist 50 Cent, crediting him as the most supportive figure in the music industry throughout his federal drug case.
Fetty Wap detailed 50 Cent's unwavering support, stating, "From day one, it was like, ‘Whatever you need, just holler at me.’" He noted the significant difference from past experiences where he was accustomed to providing support rather than receiving it. 50 Cent's assistance extended beyond mere words, encompassing both financial and mental help. Fetty Wap emphasized, "Whatever I needed, he was right there. He answered the phone. He didn’t shy off all the way down to the time I’m about to come home, ‘How you getting home?’ As far as financial and mental help, he was probably there the biggest."
Their conversations also included direct advice and motivation from 50 Cent, who implored Fetty Wap to "stop f—ing up" and expressed that he "should’ve never stopped making music." 50 Cent encouraged him to "kept going hard." Demonstrating his support publicly, 50 Cent reposted a clip of Fetty Wap's interview to his Instagram, welcoming the "Trap Queen" rapper home with the caption: “WOP HOME fresh out the FED’S ready to work. He good I got him let’s get it.”
In addition to 50 Cent, Fetty Wap acknowledged other artists who provided help in various ways during his incarceration, including Coi Leray, Chief Keef, and Albee Al.
Fetty Wap was released from prison on Thursday, January 8th, approximately eleven months ahead of his previously expected release date in December. His legal troubles began in September 2021 when he was arrested on federal drug charges prior to his Rolling Loud NYC performance. Prosecutors alleged he transported 100 kilograms of drugs from California and distributed them in Long Island. In August 2022, the New Jersey native pleaded guilty to a single charge of conspiring to distribute at least 500 grams of cocaine. He was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison in May 2023, ultimately serving over three years.
Upon his release, Fetty Wap shared a statement with Billboard, expressing thanks to his support system: “I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me.” Looking forward, he outlined his commitment to community work: “Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves. I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”
