Shocking: Police DSP Commits Suicide Amid Investigation Into Alleged Arms Supply to Bandits

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Isah Abdullahi, also known as Kunkuri, who was attached to the Mobile Police Force (Mopol 12) in Minna, Niger State, has died during an investigation into his alleged involvement in diverting arms and ammunition to criminal elements. DSP Abdullahi, who served as the officer in charge of the Mopol 12 armoury located at the B Division premises of the Niger State Police Command along Paikoro Road, Minna, reportedly shot himself while under audit.
The investigation began when a team of detectives from Abuja arrived at the unit for a routine annual audit of arms and ammunition. During this exercise, a significant discrepancy was uncovered, with several rounds of ammunition reportedly missing or unaccounted for. Preliminary findings further indicated that a substantial cache of 13 AK-47 rifles and more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition could not be traced from the armoury. The auditors were reportedly examining the AK-47 section of the facility when the critical turn of events occurred.
Further investigation swiftly led to the arrest of Inspector John Moses, who was attached to the Niger State Government House in Minna. During his interrogation, Inspector Moses allegedly confessed to his role, stating that the late DSP Abdullahi had supplied him with the illicit arms and ammunition. These weapons, according to Moses, were subsequently delivered to bandits and other criminal elements operating within the Erena community of Shiroro Local Government Area. Moses also reportedly disclosed that the weapons were sold through his brother, an indigene of the area, who acted as an intermediary and informant to the armed groups, facilitating the illegal transactions.
Following these significant developments, operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) reportedly intervened, storming Minna and transferring the suspects to Abuja for more in-depth interrogation. As the probes intensified, DSP Abdullahi was later brought back from Abuja to the Mopol 12 armoury in Minna for a physical audit of the weapons and ammunition under his charge. It was during this audit process that Abdullahi reportedly accessed a pistol within the armoury and tragically shot himself, dying on the spot.
Investigators noted that restraining the officer at that moment was challenging due to the armoury's electronic control system, which reportedly limited access primarily to him, allowing him to quickly retrieve a weapon before accompanying officers could intervene. In the immediate aftermath, the officers who had escorted him to the armoury were promptly arrested on charges of alleged negligence and are currently facing an orderly room trial. Additionally, four policemen attached to the deceased DSP have been taken into custody for interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, confirmed the incident to journalists, stating that Inspector John Moses remains under investigation at the ONSA office in Abuja. Commissioner Elleman elaborated on the DSP's final moments, saying,
