Shocking Manchester Tram Crash: Woman and Child Injured, Authorities Investigate

A major emergency operation was launched at Didsbury Village Metrolink stop in south Manchester on Wednesday evening after a woman and a teenage boy were struck by a tram. The incident, which occurred shortly before 8pm (around 7:40pm), saw police, paramedics, and fire crews rush to the scene.
According to reports, the teenage boy sustained minor injuries, while the woman was taken to hospital with back injuries after being treated by North West Ambulance Service paramedics at the scene. Pictures from the location showed numerous emergency services personnel working, with police cars, multiple ambulances, and incident response units lining nearby Olive Shapley Avenue.
The collision caused significant disruption to public transport, with trams immediately halted between St Werburgh's Road and East Didsbury in both directions. The Bee Network issued an update confirming no tram service between West Didsbury and East Didsbury. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) also released a statement, confirming they were 'fully supporting emergency services' and that the East Didsbury line was suspended. Services were turning at Sale Water Park 'until further notice', with ticket acceptance in place on local buses to assist affected passengers. All passengers on board the tram involved in the collision had to be evacuated.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed their attendance at the scene alongside the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, while TfGM's spokesperson reiterated their commitment to supporting the ongoing emergency response.
