Shocking IVF Fraud: Pastor Doctor Faces Court Over Alleged N19M Embryo Sale Scandal in Abuja

The Federal Government has initiated criminal proceedings against Dr. John Abebe, an Abuja-based medical practitioner and pastor at Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel), Durumi, Abuja. The charges, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under suit number CV/005/26, also name his institution, Joje Abebe Fertility Centre Limited. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is spearheading the prosecution, which encompasses accusations of fraud, criminal conspiracy, unlawful disclosure of confidential medical records, and the grave allegation of selling a couple’s embryos.

The three-count charge outlines several serious infractions. In the first count, prosecutors allege that Dr. Abebe, described as a Chief Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, unlawfully released the confidential medical records of Mrs. Mary Manga to members of the public without her authorization or consent. This disclosure, which occurred on or before August 6, 2025, in FCT, Abuja, is said to have traumatized the victim and is considered an abuse of office, contrary to Section 29 of the National Health Act, 2014.

The second count details a breach of a confidential agreement concerning Mr. Adamu Hassan, Mrs. Mary Manga’s husband. It is alleged that on or about September 17, 2025, Dr. Abebe, after being invited by officers of the FID STS Police Force Headquarters, was found to have exposed Mr. Hassan's poor fertility status to a third party.
