Raquel Lee Sues Disney Over Alleged Abuse During ‘The Poof Point’
Former child actor Raquel Lee Bolleau has sued Disney, alleging that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by an unnamed Disney employee when she was 14 while filming the 2001 Disney Channel movie The Poof Point.
Bolleau filed the civil negligence lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 21. The Los Angeles Times reported on the lawsuit, which alleges that the employee supplied her with alcohol and assaulted her during production in Utah and later on a flight back to California.
The complaint also claims that Disney and director Neal Israel instructed Bolleau to build a relationship with the employee and that his alleged sexual harassment was visible to cast and crew. The lawsuit says no one intervened despite what it describes as repeated inappropriate touching and sexual comments.
Lawsuit alleges Disney ignored warning signs
Bolleau claims the alleged abuse and alcohol use led to major changes in her physical and mental condition. She says she was frequently exhausted, intoxicated, hungover or vomiting on set and struggled to remember her lines.
Rather than investigating, the lawsuit alleges that Disney executives blamed Bolleau and her mother for her deteriorating performance. It also claims that her role in a planned Disney production was later canceled.
The complaint accuses Disney of failing to protect Bolleau despite warning signs and seeks damages for emotional distress, economic losses and other harm.
From child star to ‘Quiet on Set’
Bolleau appeared on The Amanda Show as a child and later voiced Nubia Gross on The Proud Family. She also returned to the franchise in The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
Her experience as a child performer was also featured in the documentary series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, where she discussed her time working in children's television.
The allegations in the lawsuit have not been proven in court. Disney's response, if any, will now form part of the legal proceedings surrounding Bolleau's claims.
