Shock Leak: Is This the Mind-Blowing 2027 Toyota Corolla GRMN?

Enthusiasm is mounting among automotive aficionados for a new, even more performance-focused iteration of the Toyota Corolla, following teasers hinting at an enhanced version of the already potent hot hatch. Recent reports suggest the 2027 Toyota Corolla GRMN is becoming a reality, potentially offering a blend of early 2000s tuner aesthetics with serious factory-installed go-fast components, reminiscent of the highly acclaimed GR Corolla Morizo Edition.

The "GRMN" designation itself carries significant weight, standing for "Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring," which signifies the pinnacle of Gazoo Racing's performance offerings. Currently, the only GRMN model available is the GRMN Yaris, a vehicle limited to just 500 examples. This exclusive model boasts a wider stance, a 44-pound weight reduction, all-wheel drive (AWD), a close-ratio gearbox, and other substantial improvements, allowing its 270-hp engine to truly excel. The GRMN Yaris was even offered with specialized Circuit or Rally Packages, underscoring its track-focused credentials.

Prior to the potential Corolla GRMN, Toyota's Gazoo Racing division already captivated enthusiasts with the GR Corolla Circuit Edition and the even more extreme Morizo Edition. The GR Corolla Circuit Edition, a rare, single-year production model, was lauded for its lightweight construction, featuring a forged carbon-fiber roof, prominent hood vents, a large rear wing, and a near-perfect weight balance. Toyota then pushed the boundaries further with the Morizo Edition, stripping away non-essential elements to create a more raw, circuit-ready machine. This included the removal of rear passenger seats, rear door speakers, and window regulators, complemented by a unique set of 18-inch forged-aluminum wheels. The Morizo Edition also featured a unique gearbox with a short-throw shifter, optimally tuned for circuit driving and efficiently deploying power from its 1.6-liter turbocharged I-3 engine to all four wheels.

A recent leak from a GR Corolla Forum, reportedly originating from a Toyota Town Hall Dealer Expo, provides a glimpse into the rumored Corolla GRMN. The leaked images and information reveal several similarities to the Morizo Edition, including the presence of the same 18-inch forged wheels, albeit in a new bronze shade. Further enhancements include distinctive fender vents, a new exposed-carbon hood, and critically, the continuation of the rear seat delete. The reports also point to a new set of GR Recaro front seats featuring increased bolstering, although it remains unclear if these features represent a standard production version or an optional package, akin to the GRMN Yaris offerings. When contacted for confirmation regarding the car spotted at the Las Vegas dealer show, Toyota maintained its official stance, stating, "We cannot comment on speculation about future product."
