Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 19-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, recently garnered attention for using a new name, "Shi Joli," during a creative project. This occurred at a Los Angeles dinner event on Thursday, May 29, which celebrated the launch of fashion designer Isabel Marant's collection with Net-A-Porter. Shiloh served as a choreographer for musician Luella, who performed her newly-released single "Naïve" at the event, with Shiloh being credited as "Shi Joli" in the press release.
This new moniker follows Shiloh's legal steps to alter her name. It was reported that Shiloh filed to legally drop "Pitt" from her last name, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, on her 18th birthday in May 2024. A legal ruling last year had already permitted her to go by Shiloh Jolie. This change underscores a significant personal decision for the teenager.
Shiloh's involvement in the arts, particularly dance, is not new. Angelina Jolie has previously spoken about her daughter's passion for dance and performance. Choreographer Kolanie Marks, who has worked with Shiloh, shared a video in August showcasing her developing dance skills, noting her commitment to the craft. Marks mentioned that Shiloh has trained for several years, including at the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, and humorously referred to himself as her "ADOPTED UNCLE" due to their close working relationship and her progress.
Shiloh is not the only child of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to publicly use a different name. Her younger sister, Vivienne, 16, who assisted her mother in producing the Broadway musical "The Outsiders," was listed in the Playbill as "Vivienne Jolie" instead of "Vivienne Jolie-Pitt." It remains unclear if Vivienne has legally changed her name.
Similarly, their older sister, Zahara, 20, introduced herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie" in November of the previous year. This occurred during a ceremony when she joined the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College, as shown in a video shared by Essence.
Angelina Jolie, 49, and Brad Pitt, 61, are parents to six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 16. The apparent name changes by three of their children have emerged amidst years of reported strain in Brad Pitt’s relationship with his children, following Angelina Jolie's filing for divorce and sole physical custody in 2016.
Shortly after Shiloh's petition to change her name was filed in May, a source close to Brad Pitt shared with PEOPLE magazine that the actor was "aware and upset" that Shiloh had dropped his last name. The source added, "The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them."
Amidst the ongoing legal battles concerning custody and their winery, Chateau Miraval, Angelina Jolie's lawyer previously stated to PEOPLE: "All Angelina has ever wanted was separation and health, with positive relationships between all members of their family, including Mr. Pitt." More recently, Brad Pitt opened up in an interview with GQ about the finalization of their divorce in 2024, expressing a sense of relief. He described it as "something coming to fruition. Legally," and acknowledged the long public history of his personal life.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie first met in 2005 while filming "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." They married in 2014 at Château Miraval in France, but their marriage ended after two years, with Jolie filing for divorce in 2016. The family dynamics have since been a subject of public interest.
Adding to the narrative of change, Angelina Jolie has reportedly revealed plans to move from Los Angeles. This discussion included her expressed desire for more 'privacy,' suggesting a potential shift in her personal and family life away from the spotlight of Hollywood.
