MEXICO CITY, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday reiterated that her government will always seek "respect for the human rights" of Mexicans abroad, following the death of a Mexican citizen in custody at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center.

"All investigations have to be done and we will always seek respect for the human rights of Mexicans abroad," said the president at her daily press conference in Mexico City.

The Foreign Ministry of Mexico on Thursday expressed regret over the death of the Mexican citizen on June 7 while in custody at the ICE detention center in the state of Georgia.

The ministry added that the Mexican Consulate in Atlanta had been notified and consular personnel had established communication with local authorities, the ICE, as well as with the deceased's family, to clarify the facts and provide legal advice and support to the family.
