Sensational Season: Fernandes Crowned Premier League's Top Player

Manchester United's captain, Bruno Fernandes, has been officially crowned the Premier League Player of the Season, a prestigious accolade recognizing his outstanding performance throughout the season. This significant achievement comes shortly after he was also named the Football Writers’ Association men’s Player of the Year, highlighting a remarkable period of recognition for the Portuguese midfielder.
Fernandes demonstrated his exceptional playmaking abilities by equaling the record for assists in a single Premier League season, delivering his 20th goal-setting pass against Nottingham Forest in the penultimate weekend. Beyond his assists, he also contributed eight goals across 37 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Manchester United's successful campaign to secure third place in the league and, consequently, qualification for the coveted Champions League.
His influence on the pitch extended to chance creation, where he led the league with an impressive 132 chances created. This figure significantly outstripped his closest competitor, Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, by 43, underscoring his unparalleled creative output. Fernandes is the first Manchester United player to receive this esteemed award since the defender Nemanja Vidic in 2011, marking an end to a long wait for the club.
The selection process for the Premier League Player of the Season award involves a combination of public votes and assessments from a panel of expert football analysts. Fernandes emerged victorious from a strong shortlist that included Arsenal’s David Raya, Gabriel, and Declan Rice; Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo; Brentford’s Igor Thiago; and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White. As the season draws to a close, Manchester United is set to play their final match against Brighton on Sunday.
