Sensational Confession: Killaboi Alleges Late Girlfriend Demanded N1.5m for Sex, Claims Accidental Stabbing
Benjamin Nnayerugo, known as Killaboi, is on trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwaghagbe. His defense details discovering messages suggesting she sought payment for sex, leading to a heated confrontation where he claims she was accidentally stabbed during a struggle over a knife. The court proceedings continue as Nnayerugo recounts the events leading to her death.
Benjamin Nnayerugo, widely recognized as Killaboi, is currently standing trial before Justice Ibironke Harrison at the Lagos State High Court on charges related to the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwaghagbe.
Nnayerugo has presented his defense, detailing a series of events that he claims led to Augusta's death, involving allegations of infidelity, emotional confrontations, and a physical struggle over a knife.
According to Nnayerugo's testimony, the incident began in late June 2023, because after losing a significant amount of money on a sports bet, he became upset.
Though Augusta attempted to console him, his mood did not improve, because following her return to school, Nnayerugo, who had access to her Instagram account, began monitoring her conversations.
He noticed suspicious messages with unfamiliar accounts and observed that some conversations were subsequently deleted.
After about a week of monitoring, he agreed for Augusta to visit him in Lagos for the weekend, planning to log out of her account before her arrival to conceal his actions.
A day before her scheduled visit, Nnayerugo grew more suspicious after seeing a conversation between Augusta and an Instagram account named "Yako."
The sender referred to Augusta as "sweetheart" and suggested continuing their communication on Instagram after deactivating Snapchat.
The account holder allegedly asked about her visit to Lagos, to which she reportedly replied she could come whenever he wished.
The conversation, according to Nnayerugo, then shifted to payment, with Augusta allegedly insisting on her price and refusing to reduce it.
To investigate further, Nnayerugo obtained a virtual SIM card and created a WhatsApp account, impersonating "Yako." He then contacted Augusta, alleging that she demanded N1.5 million for the proposed meeting.
He claimed she rejected initial offers of N800,000 and N1 million, citing the significant risk involved, before he eventually agreed to her requested amount.
Nnayerugo further testified that they discussed meeting at either a hotel or an apartment, and he even proposed having sex without a condom if medical tests were conducted beforehand, to which she allegedly agreed.
Convinced that the proposed meeting involved sexual services for money, Nnayerugo described experiencing an emotional breakdown.
Initially, he considered arranging a hotel meeting through a friend to confront Augusta, but later abandoned the plan, deciding it was unnecessary to spend such a sum to confirm her alleged unfaithfulness.
Instead, he decided to end the relationship and confront her directly with the messages. He initiated a video call, during which Augusta screamed and dropped her phone upon seeing him.
Nnayerugo accused her of arranging the alleged encounter, declared their relationship over, and threatened to inform her mother.
Nnayerugo stated he had a close relationship with Augusta’s mother, who supported their relationship. When he eventually reached her mother, he explained the messages and informed her of his decision to end the relationship.
However, Augusta's mother questioned his unauthorized access to her daughter’s Instagram account, stating it was wrong and a criminal offence.
Nnayerugo expressed his frustration, noting he had called to inform her about the breakup, not to discuss his methods of obtaining information. He reiterated his decision to end the relationship before concluding the call.
The night of July 11, following the confrontation, Nnayerugo and Augusta spoke on the phone, a conversation that extended into the next morning. During this call, Augusta reportedly informed him she was no longer interested in their six-year relationship.
Nnayerugo recalled the significant financial and material investments he had made in their relationship, including a trip to Seychelles in 2022, her university fees in January 2023, and approximately N20 million spent on diamonds, an iPhone, AirPods, and a private lounge for her birthday in February 2023.
He subsequently agreed to meet her at his residence on July 12, following a message from Augusta’s mother that he interpreted as support for Augusta’s decision to end the relationship.
At his residence, they smoked marijuana before eating and sleeping separately. The following morning, Nnayerugo attempted to check her phone again, but Augusta had changed her WhatsApp password.
He feigned a cough and asked her to get water, seizing the opportunity to take her phone when she turned away.
Augusta reportedly rushed at him, demanding her device back. While trying to keep her at bay with one hand, Nnayerugo allegedly discovered conversations between Augusta and her mother, which he interpreted as her mother advising Augusta on how to address the cheating allegations and encouraging her to leave the relationship.
Enraged, Nnayerugo called Augusta’s mother a "fake pastor," provoking Augusta to react. He claimed she then picked up a steak knife from a table and threatened to stab him if he did not return her phone.
He alleged she stabbed him in both hands, but he maintained his grip on the phone, desiring the return of the gifts he had bought for her.
Nnayerugo further testified that Augusta then threatened to stab him in the chest and kill him for insulting her mother. This prompted him to try and disarm her.
He described a struggle over the knife that lasted approximately 10 minutes, with Augusta holding the handle and he grasping the blade.
During this intense struggle, he eventually managed to grab the handle, but at that moment, he realized Augusta had been stabbed in the stomach.
He recounted, "At that point she was hit and fell down. It was then my eyes cleared. Blood came out from her stomach and her mouth."
In an attempt to save her, Nnayerugo said he removed the knife from her stomach and covered the wound with a towel to stop the bleeding, telling her, "I told her not to die and that I won’t break up with her again."
Benjamin Nnayerugo, who was extradited to Nigeria after spending about two years on the run and was arrested in Doha, Qatar, was arraigned in November 2025 and pleaded not guilty to the two-count murder charge.
The court has adjourned further hearings until December 7 and 8, 2026. These allegations about the deceased’s private communications remain claims made by the defendant and have not been established as facts by the court.
