The Nasarawa State Government has warned parents to send their children to school or face fines.
Dr Kassim Muhammad Kassim, the newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), gave the warning on Wednesday shortly after his inauguration by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
He said every child has the right to free and compulsory basic education.
“No parent has the excuse to deny a child education. It is compulsory and failure to comply is an offence punishable by law,” he said.
He pledged to integrate almajiri children into the state’s education system and shift focus from contracts to policies that benefit both learners and board staff.
Governor Sule, during the swearing-in ceremony, tasked the new NSUBEB chairman to review the current staff strength and inject fresh manpower into the system to improve primary and junior secondary education delivery.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening basic education as a foundation for societal development.
