The Senate on Monday agreed to hold a plenary to hear the impeachment motion against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo.

A motion to set up an 11-member committee was overruled as Speaker Amason Kingi ruled that the impeachment case will be heard on Tuesday, July 8 and Wednesday, July 9.

The House will discuss the grounds for Guyo's ouster, which include gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violation of various laws and the Constitution.

Guyo was impeached after 16 out of 18 MCAs voted in favour of the impeachment motion filed by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana.

The motion cited numerous leadership shortcomings, such as the stalling of major development projects, failure to achieve revenue targets, and the creation of a bloated executive, appointing 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, despite Isiolo County receiving the third-lowest revenue allocation nationally.

In addition, Guyo was accused of issuing short-term, two-year contracts to chief officers, a move the County Assembly argued created an "environment of fear and uncertainty."

The impeachment motion moved forward despite a court order prohibiting the Assembly from proceeding with the process.
