Selena Gomez Reveals Must-See Movie for Her Future Kids

Selena Gomez recently appeared on Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang With Amy Poehler, where she candidly discussed her thoughts on future children, setting boundaries, and navigating life in the public eye. As her wedding date with Benny Blanco approaches, Gomez shared an emotional reaction to Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” a film she plans to make her future children watch.
Gomez congratulated Poehler for her work as Joy in the “Inside Out” franchise. She revealed that the sequel, which introduces the emotion of Anxiety into 13-year-old Riley’s life, brought her to tears. “I watched it with my sister and I completely sobbed because it’s so factual,” Gomez stated on the podcast’s September 9 episode, suggesting the movie should be a required viewing in schools. Her 12-year-old sister, Gracie, also shed tears. Poehler agreed, noting that the film captures the “heartbreak that happens when Anxiety moves in,” a sentiment relatable to both young people experiencing it in real-time and adults recalling similar feelings from their youth.
The discussion also touched upon Gomez’s anticipation of motherhood, albeit in the future. “I’m gonna make my children watch it,” she said, clarifying, “Not yet.” Poehler expressed excitement for Gomez’s future as a parent. Her future children were also brought up in the context of setting personal boundaries. Gomez, known for her roles in “Only Murders in the Building” and her Rare Beauty cosmetics company, admitted she struggles to say “no” to people, often feeling she owes fans a smile, hug, or picture. This can lead to internal struggles with anxiety, as she overthinks missing someone. She believes that having children will prompt her to establish more significant boundaries for the sake of her sanity.
The challenges of celebrity life, particularly dealing with paparazzi, were also explored. Martin Short, Gomez’s co-star in “Only Murders in the Building,” described the constant presence of over 100 photographers when Gomez is filming on the streets of New York City, often waiting for her to stumble. Short lauded Gomez’s grace in handling them, noting that her only stern reaction he witnessed was when paparazzi were abrupt with a 14-year-old fan. Gomez herself recounted an incident during season two of filming where she gave a photographer the finger after he said a “vile word” to someone. While she regretted giving them the reaction they sought, Poehler dismissed it, playfully pointing out that one finger in 33 years wasn’t much, to which Gomez confessed there had “probably been a couple more.”
