Scotland discover Belarus venue for World Cup qualifier as Steve Clarke and Co bid for spot in biggest stage of them all - Football Scotland
Scotland have discovered the venue for their clash with Belarus on the road.
UEFA have confirmed the venue for the World Cup qualifier which will be played behind closed doors in Hungary as the Dark Blues bid to join the biggest party of the lot.
Steve Clarke and his troops face the section minnows, alongside Denmark and Greece in the battle for a place at the finals next year in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Skipper Andy Robertson and his colleagues come up against the group outsiders in the second outing of a September double-header following a trip to Copenhagen to face Denmark in the section opener.
And the venue has now been confirmed as being played in the western Hungarian outpost of Zalaegerszeg - 135 miles from the capital, Budapest.
Belarus are not allowed to play their 'home' matches in their own country due to UEFA restrictions after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
And they will host Scotland - but not the Tartan Army - at the ZTE Arena, home of Zalaegerszegi TE.
Belarus played three Nations League matches at the venue last year against Bulgaria, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg and avoided defeat in the three outings after three draws.
Northern Ireland were held to a goalless draw and boss Michael O'Neill wasn't happy about UEFA's decision to make them play there with no fans.
He said: "It will have the feel of a fixture played during Covid.
"It is not ideal making Belarus play us in a neutral venue, but we will have to deal with it and it will have a different feel.
"It's very disappointing for our fans that they are unable to attend the game."
Scotland head into the September competitive fixtures off the back of a mixed June.
Iceland shocked the Tartan Army at Hampden as they dumped the Dark Blues 3-1 in a night to forget for youngster Cieran Slicker.
The national team then battered minnows Liechtenstein 4-0 on the road to get that winning feeling back in the camp.
