Liverpool Secures £40m Transfer for Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth

Liverpool Football Club has successfully finalized a significant £40 million deal to acquire 21-year-old Hungarian international left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. This transfer marks a notable addition to Liverpool's squad, with Kerkez set to join the Premier League champions after spending two seasons with the Cherries. In anticipation of Kerkez's departure, Bournemouth has already secured Adrien Truffert from Rennes as his replacement.
The agreement for Kerkez is part of a broader, ambitious transfer window for Liverpool, which is also reportedly nearing completion of a club-record £116 million move for Bayer Leverkusen's attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. Additionally, the Reds have already strengthened their right-back position by signing Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from the German club for £29.5 million, signaling a comprehensive rebuilding effort under new management.
Milos Kerkez's senior career began in Hungary with Gyor before he made a move to Italian giants AC Milan. Despite his time at Milan, he did not make a senior appearance for the Serie A outfit. He subsequently transferred to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in January 2022, where he truly began to make his mark. During the 2022-23 season, Kerkez played a crucial role in helping AZ Alkmaar finish fourth in the Dutch top flight, contributing five goals and seven assists across 52 appearances. He also played an integral part in the Eredivisie side's journey to the semi-finals of the 2022-23 Europa Conference League, where they were ultimately defeated by eventual winners West Ham.
Kerkez then joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2023, a move that occurred while Liverpool's current sporting director, Richard Hughes, was working for the Cherries. In his debut Premier League season, Kerkez demonstrated remarkable consistency and durability, playing all 38 league games. His contributions, including two goals and six assists, helped Bournemouth achieve a club-record 56 Premier League points, securing a ninth-place finish. On the international stage, Kerkez has earned 23 caps for Hungary and is now set to link up with his compatriot Dominik Szoboszlai at Anfield.
Kerkez's anticipated arrival at Liverpool raises questions about the future of the club's current left-backs, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. Robertson, a long-standing key player, has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. While Liverpool is keen to retain Robertson and allow current back-up Tsimikas to leave, the club acknowledges that the 31-year-old Scot might seek a move in search of more regular first-team football, adding an element of uncertainty to the squad dynamics.
According to BBC Sport journalist Nat Hayward, Kerkez appears to be the
