Saudi Arabia, Moroccan King mourn Buhari, praise service to Nigeria
The Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and King Mohammed VI of Morocco have extended their condolences to the Federal government over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Moroccan monarch, in a statement, expressed sympathy to President Bola Tinubu, the bereaved family and the people of Nigeria, describing the loss as a “sad occurrence”
Also, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau and Niger Republic Prime Minister, Ali Lamine Zeine, were among thousands of personalities who attended the funeral rites of Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.
King Mohammed described Buhari as an “illustrious leader who worked untiringly to serve his country’s best interests and lead his people towards further progress and prosperity.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the bereaved. I share your grief and want you to know how much I appreciated the working sessions I had with the deceased. They culminated in the launch of promising development projects that have ushered in a new era grounded in friendship and close cooperation between our two nations,” he said.
Buhari died on Sunday afternoon at London Hospital while battling a protracted illness. His remains were buried in his hometown, Daura in Katsina State.
In a condolence message released by the Royal embassy in Abuja, the custodian of the two holy Mosques regretted the passage of the former Nigerian President.
According to the message, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his son, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent condolences and sympathy to President Bola Tinubu on the death of Buhari.
“HRH the Crown Prince expressed deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the President, the Nigerian people and the family of the deceased,” The cable message reads.
Buhari made his last visit to Saudi Arabia in April 2023 to perform a lesser pilgrimage a few days before the expiration of his eight years in office.
Nigeria, under Buhari, enjoyed a smooth bilateral relationship with Saudi authorities.
