Sam George Engages DStv Operators Over High Subscription Fees

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communication, Digitalisation, and Innovation, has commenced critical discussions with the management of Digital Satellite Television (DStv), a service operated by MultiChoice. These engagements are primarily focused on addressing the concerns surrounding DStv's subscription pricing in Ghana, which has been met with increasing public criticism from subscribers amidst the nation's current economic challenges.
The Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament (MP) initially met with the Country Manager and Board Chair of MultiChoice Ghana. During this introductory session, Minister George conveyed his directive for the MultiChoice Ghana representatives to return next Thursday, July 3, 2025, accompanied by the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MultiChoice Africa. This instruction was publicly shared by the Minister on X (formerly Twitter) on June 27, 2025, signaling his commitment to transparency regarding these negotiations.
The core objective of these high-level meetings, as articulated by Sam George, is to ensure that MultiChoice Ghana's pricing strategy is harmonized with Ghana's economic realities and adheres strictly to local regulatory requirements. Furthermore, a crucial aim of the discussions is to identify and implement immediate measures to curb any potential revenue loss. The Minister has pledged to keep the Ghanaian public informed about the progress and outcomes of these engagements, expressing optimism for a resolution that will alleviate the financial burden on DStv subscribers in the country.
