President William Ruto has criticised opposition leaders for what he termed as a lack of a clear development agenda, urging them to focus on uniting the country and addressing key national issues.

Speaking during a church service in Lugari, Kakamega County, Ruto dismissed the "Ruto must go" slogan popular among opposition circles as empty rhetoric that offers no solutions to the country's pressing issues.

“Hawa watu wengine hawana mpango. We cannot hand over to people hawana mpango. Ati mpango yao ni Ruto must go, must go itakusaidia na nini?” Ruto posed.

(These other people have no plan. We cannot hand over leadership to people who have no plan. Their so-called plan is just 'Ruto must go', how will that help you?)

“Hujui vile vijana wetu watapata kazi, hujui vile kilimo itaendelea, hujui vile watoto watasoma... You have no plan to do anything.” (You don’t know how our youth will get jobs, you don’t know how agriculture will progress, you don’t know how children will go to school...You have no plan to do anything."

“Ata mkiona wakiongea wako na kisirani mingi sana, sijui ni kama nani aliwakosea. Na kama wako na kisirani na mimi, wawachane na Wakenya, wakuje tukutane huko kando. Nitawamalizia pale kando,” Ruto added in a stern warning.

He stressed that his administration remains focused on key priorities such as youth employment, agricultural productivity, affordable education, and access to healthcare.

“Ya muhimu ni vile vijana watapata kazi, vile kilimo itatupatia kazi, vile watoto wetu watasoma, vile matibabu itapatikana. That is what is important to us as a country,” he said.

Ruto’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions and renewed calls by some opposition leaders, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, to make Ruto a one-term president.

Ruto was accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, Governors Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega) and Ken Lusaka (Bungoma, among other elected leaders from the region.
