Rumoured defection: Osun PDP leaders
From , Osogbo
rumoured defection plans of Governor Ademola Adeleke might have been ratified by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State as the leadership caucus of the party reportedly passed a vote of confidence in him and promised to support whatever decision he takes.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on yesterday, said that the leaders of the party met at the Banquet Hall of the Government House to take the decision.
According to the statement, the party leaders praised the governor’s leadership and performance in office and mandated him to continue consultations with all stakeholders locally and nationally.
The statement read: “The caucus meeting has in attendance representatives of all sections of the party and government namely the National Assembly caucus, the State Assembly caucus, the State Executive Council, the State Executive of the party, the Special Advisers’ Forum, the elders caucus and the state chapter of ALGON leadership.
“After a briefing from Governor Ademola Adeleke and exhaustive deliberations by leaders, the meeting issued a communiqué to signal its direction on the issue at the moment.
“In the communiqué, the PDP state leadership resolved to follow Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke wherever he goes. The meeting however recognized that the governor is still consulting on next lines of action.”
Meanwhile, the Osun Progressive Youth (O-SPY) has urged President Bola Tinubu and leadership of the APC not to be deceived by the purported claim that Adeleke is having support of residents of Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The group appealed to the president to resist Adeleke’s defection plan, saying that the support base of APC had grown more since 2022 when Adeleke became the governor because of his style of governance.
The coordinator of the group, Tunmise Ajiboye, in a statement, posited that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been losing its bigwigs to APC since 2022 from ex-aides of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his strong supporters.
“Following insinuations that Adeleke is attempting to join APC, we want to state it clearly that Osun people are ready to reject both Adeleke and PDP in 2026. APC has never lost any of its members to PDP. Rather, more members of the ruling party (PDP) joined our party since 2022.”
