Furthermore, he forfeits lifelong honors such as membership in the Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order. From now on, he will be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Public outrage and mounting pressure played a significant role in the King's decision.
