Royal Comeback! Meghan Markle Returns to Acting, 'Swamped With Offers'

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has made her long-awaited return to Hollywood, officially beginning filming for the comedy Close Personal Friends in Pasadena, California. The 44-year-old Duchess is reportedly portraying herself in the Amazon-MGM Studios production, her first acting role since marrying Prince Harry in 2018. The announcement has reignited global interest in Meghan’s creative career and sparked a wave of anticipation among fans and critics alike.
The film, first revealed in August, follows a couple who befriend a celebrity pair during a trip to Santa Barbara, a premise closely mirroring Meghan and Prince Harry’s own life in Montecito. The project boasts an impressive cast, including Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding. Directed by Jason Orley (I Want You Back), who co-wrote the screenplay with Isaac Aptaker, the movie blends celebrity satire with emotional insight, reflecting the Duchess’s growing interest in storytelling that balances humor and authenticity.
According to production insiders, Meghan has been “swamped with offers” since stepping away from acting eight years ago. However, this role reportedly “felt right,” symbolizing her gentle re-entry into the entertainment industry. Prince Harry is said to be fully supportive of her decision, with one insider revealing he “just wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.” Those present on set on November 5 described the Duchess as “relaxed, warm, and approachable,” noting her professionalism and genuine enthusiasm for reconnecting with the film world.
Before her royal chapter, Meghan built an established career in television and film. She appeared in shows like Fringe, Castle, and The League, and gained fame as paralegal Rachel Zane on the USA Network legal drama Suits, where she starred for seven seasons before leaving in 2017. Her earlier work also included being a briefcase model on Deal or No Deal. These experiences cemented her reputation as a versatile performer capable of blending wit, intelligence, and grace on screen.
Over the years, Meghan’s views on acting have evolved. In a 2018 interview with the BBC, she said her transition from Hollywood to royal life was “not giving anything up, just a change.” Yet in a 2022 interview with Variety, she stated, “I’m done… my intention is absolutely not to act again.” Still, recent projects from the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan to her discussion on Emma Grede’s podcast have hinted at renewed creative energy. “Being back on set was great,” Meghan said. “I realised how much I missed my crew.” With Close Personal Friends, she appears to be embracing that passion once more.
