Ronit Roy gave up his bad habits like alcohol after being called 'Amitabh Bachchan of television': 'Drugs ke alaawa sab kuch karta tha par unse comparison ke baad…' | Hindi Movie News - Times of India
Ronit Roy was called the Amitabh Bachchan of television for the longest time after he played Mihir in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and Mr Bajaj in ‘Kasauti Zindagi Ki’. He continues to be remembered till date.
At the moment, Roy owns a security management company which handles the security of many actors like Bachchan himself.
In a recent interview, Ronit has spoken about his bad habits and how he changed as a person completely after being compared to the legendary actor. Ronit said during a chat with Hindi Rush, “Yeh tulna kabhi ho hi nahi sakti. Par main ek baat jaanta hu. Main baitha hu unke saath baatein hui hai par mere mann mein koi sanshay nahi ke unka struggle bohot bada tha.
Usmein se nikal ke, aake, lad ke, jeetke wapas aana, badi baat hai. (This comparison can never happen. But I know one thing for sure. I’ve spent time with Mr Bachchan and I would like to admit that my struggle has been nothing in front of his struggle.
The things he went through and to come out of it with a bang is a big thing).” He added, “I’m very proud to be called Amitabh Bachchan of television. It changed my life. We didn’t have to think of petrol and all.
But when I came on TV and I was called AB of TV, one day, my wife Neelam and I were going somewhere and we were talking about it. Now, there was a positive pressure of it. I thought, ‘Aap apni aadatein badlo aur unko follow karo. Aapse koi galti na ho jaaye joh unpe reflect na kare. Aap koi aisa kaam nai karo.
Turning point yeh hua ke mere aadatein joh badli. (I felt I wanted to become like this and change my habits because I never wanted to have any bad habit that could perhaps reflect upon him.)” When asked about the kind of habits he left, he said, “Maine sab kuch kiya joh ek jawan ladka karta hai. Drugs chhodke. Main sharab peeta tha. Main drink karta tha tab, ab nahi karta. (I’ve done everything like how a young guy does, except for drugs. I never did drugs.)” However, Ronit admitted he’s always been disciplined about his time. When asked about punctuality, he said, “Main zindagi mein kabhi kaam ya kisi bhi cheez pe late nahi hua.
Jab se hosh sambhala, main kabhi late nahi hua.” Talking about the other things he changed about him, Ronit said, “Phir kuch buri aadatein aapki soch mein hoti hai, jaise ki eersha. Toh yeh saare badlaav mere mein tabse aaye jabse unke naam se mujhe compare kiya. Bada aadmi kaisa hota hai? Unke jaisa hota hai? Toh woh baatein toh laao. (Then there were some internal things about it which needed change. For example, jealousy. You can’t get jealous of anyone. I thought if I’m compared to a person like him, I should also imbibe a big man’s qualities which I tried to).
