Saturday, July 5, 2025
The 25th WTTC Global Summit is heading to the Eternal City from September 28 to 30, 2025.
Organized at the iconic Auditorium Parco della Musica, the forum will bring together the most powerful leaders of tourism, business, and government from around the globe. This prestigious event, the turning point of the international tourism sector, will present Italy as the world leader of the travel and tourism industry and the place where the future of the sector is defined.
The two-day forum is being hosted by Italy’s Ministry of Tourism, the Italian National Tourist Board (ENIT), the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Region.
The forum will assemble the world’s industry leaders along with ministers, the Mayor and business leaders and tourism, culture and business opinion-makers.
Italy’s long tourism heritage and its sustainable and innovative management of the sector make it the ideal location for the high-powered forum.
The WTTC Global Summit is the most important event in the global tourism calendar, and the 2025 summit promises to be a defining moment for the industry. With tourism playing a vital role in the global economy, the summit will bring together over 1,000 delegates, representing government, business, and academia. The goal is to discuss urgent challenges, identify opportunities, and outline strategies for shaping a resilient, sustainable future for tourism worldwide.
The summit will serve as a crucial meeting point for industry leaders and government representatives, offering an opportunity to explore emerging trends and innovative solutions to some of tourism’s most pressing issues. Topics of discussion will include sustainable tourism practices, technological advancements in travel, climate action, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
Julia Simpson, the President & CEO of WTTC, emphasized the importance of the summit’s setting. “Italy represents everything the world loves about travel—beauty, quality, culture, and cuisine,” she said. “Rome is the perfect stage for a summit that will welcome the world’s tourism leaders to think boldly, act collaboratively, and help shape a decade of growth rooted in excellence.”
Italy, one of the world’s top tourist destinations, is deeply committed to promoting sustainable tourism that balances environmental stewardship with economic growth. The country offers a diverse range of experiences, from its stunning cities and historical landmarks to its beautiful countryside and pristine coastlines. Italy’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its approach to tourism, focusing on minimizing environmental impacts while maximizing the benefits of tourism for local communities.
Minister Daniela Santanchè, Italy’s Minister of Tourism, remarked, “Italy offers beauty everywhere. We are thrilled to host the WTTC Global Summit, as it represents a fantastic opportunity to showcase our commitment to a sustainable tourism future. This is not only about attracting visitors but also about ensuring that tourism benefits local communities and preserves the country’s cultural and environmental heritage.”
Sustainability will be a major theme at the summit, with discussions focusing on reducing tourism’s carbon footprint, promoting responsible travel, and encouraging sustainable tourism policies. Italy, through its national and regional initiatives, has been a frontrunner in sustainable tourism. From reducing the impact of mass tourism in Venice and Florence to promoting agritourism in the countryside, Italy is leading by example. The summit will provide a platform to share these best practices with the global tourism community.
Rome, with its rich cultural history and vibrant contemporary scene, serves as the perfect backdrop for the 25th WTTC Global Summit. The city’s timeless appeal, combined with its modern energy, offers a unique environment for discussions about the future of tourism. Rome is renowned not only for its ancient ruins, such as the Colosseum and Roman Forum, but also for its role as a hub for art, innovation, and culture.
The venue for the summit, the Auditorium Parco della Musica, designed by architect Renzo Piano, is a symbol of Rome’s blend of historical and modern elements. The auditorium is one of the city’s most important cultural venues, and its dynamic design reflects the forward-thinking attitude of both Rome and the wider tourism industry. It will provide an inspiring setting for global leaders to meet and collaborate on the most important issues facing tourism today.
Rome’s role as a UNESCO World Heritage city, along with its importance as a global tourism hub, makes it an ideal location to discuss the future of cultural preservation and destination stewardship. The summit will explore how to balance the preservation of heritage with the needs of modern tourism and how technology and innovation can support the sustainable management of destinations.
The 2025 WTTC Global Summit is expected to set the stage for a new era in tourism. As the sector continues to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, global leaders are focused on making tourism more resilient and sustainable. The summit will cover key topics such as the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of travel, innovations in sustainable aviation, and how destinations can better manage tourism flows while preserving local culture and heritage.
Italy’s tourism leaders, along with experts from around the world, will share insights on how the industry can recover more responsibly. The discussion will center on how tourism can foster global connection, peace, and economic resilience. It is also expected to be a forum for exploring new approaches to luxury travel, wellness tourism, and fashion tourism—sectors in which Italy excels.
For Manfredi Lefebvre, the incoming Chairman of the WTTC, the summit will be an opportunity to inspire change and innovation. “Rome, with its rich history and vibrant culture, serves as an ideal backdrop for this pivotal dialogue among global leaders,” Lefebvre said. “Together, we can harness the power of tourism to create meaningful experiences that transcend borders and foster global connections.”
Italy has been among the world’s most visited destinations for decades and attracts millions of visitors every year. Through its art, history, cuisine, and natural environment, the country is the embodiment of the way tourism can bring people together. Italy is also among the leaders in embracing new trends itself, from the rise of luxury tourism and wellness tourism to the development of the blue economy and its orientation towards sustainable use of the sea and maritime tourism.
Italy has also embraced the new phase of sustainable marinas and eco-friendly mega-yachts over the years. In such developments, Italy is showing the way the tourism sector can evolve with the challenges of climate change without sacrificing its competitiveness towards high-spending travelers.
The 25th WTTC Global Summit will showcase Italy’s tourism potential as greatly as its strength to innovate and drive change in the rapidly evolving tourism sector. As the countdown begins, the world is anticipating Rome, Lazio, and Italy as they create the foundation of the industry of the future—sustainable and successful tourism for the world.
