Roku TV Free Upgrade: Three New Features Rolling Out Now - Tech Advisor
Whether you own a Roku TV from Sharp, TCL, JVC or another brand, you’ll soon be getting a free revamp of the home screen, which will enhance your browsing experience.
From today, the What to Watch feature is rolling out across all TV models in the UK and will be available on new Roku panels going forward, alongside two new additions to make your current binges easier to find.
The What to Watch upgrade will take into account the streaming platforms you’re subscribed to (such as Netflix or Disney+), as well as what you’ve previously watched, to provide tailored recommendations of TV shows and films to help you find something new.
The section will also provide ‘editorially curated content from across the Roku platform’. You’ll be able to find all the series and movies from What to Watch in the navigation menu of the home screen.
In addition, Roku TVs will also introduce a Continue Watching hub, so you can jump back into whatever you’ve had on the go last. TVs now have the Save List, so you can tag anything you’re interested in streaming and revisit it at a later date.
All three elements are already available on Roku’s streaming sticks, so it’s good to see the TVs following suit.
Just a few weeks ago, Roku also revealed that it now supports Freely, the streaming alternative to Freeview. This is the default way of finding live and on-demand content that doesn’t require a premium subscription, such as the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
You can find a full list of Roku TV manufacturers and retailers on the Roku website, with panel sizes ranging from 24-inch, all the way up to 86-inch.
