Rising Star Ella Langley Shakes Up Country Charts, Outperforming Beyoncé & Taylor Swift!

Ella Langley has made history on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, extending her remarkable double-up at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions for multiple consecutive weeks. This achievement positions her as the first woman ever to simultaneously hold the top two spots for more than one week, a feat that surpasses previous single-week occurrences by iconic artists such as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.

Langley’s track, “Choosin’ Texas,” continues its dominant run, logging an impressive 16th week atop the chart. During the March 6–12 tracking week, the song amassed significant metrics, including 22.7 million official U.S. streams, 44.7 million in radio airplay audience, and 6,000 units sold, according to Luminate data. Concurrently, her song “Be Her” maintains its No. 2 high, demonstrating substantial listener engagement with 12 million streams, 4 million in airplay reach, and 2,000 units sold in the same period.

Langley’s initial capture of the Hot Country Songs chart’s top two positions a week prior had already placed her in an elite group as only the third woman to reach such a milestone. Beyoncé achieved this in April 2024 when “Texas Hold ’Em” led the chart and “II Most Wanted,” her collaboration with Miley Cyrus, debuted at No. 2. Similarly, Taylor Swift demonstrated her chart prowess in October 2012 during the release of her album Red, with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and the album’s title track occupying the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively.

The ability for any artist to lock down both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions simultaneously for multiple weeks is exceedingly rare across the varied eras of the Hot Country Songs chart. In the contemporary streaming-driven landscape, Morgan Wallen holds a record 25-week streak, part of an unprecedented 37 total weeks he has earned this honor since 2022. This modern achievement far exceeds earlier runs, such as Dan + Shay’s eight-week stretch in 2018-19 and Luke Bryan’s six-week streak in 2014.

Looking further back into earlier eras of the chart, this particular feat was even less common. Historically, only two other two-week runs have been recorded: by Willie Nelson in 1982 and Buck Owens in 1964. This historical context underscores the extraordinary nature of Ella Langley’s current stretch, which stands out not only as the longest by a woman but also as a significant accomplishment within today’s comprehensive multimetric environment that factors in streams, airplay, and sales.
