Ripple's RLUSD Blitz: Africa Expansion Fuels Stablecoin's Race to Top 5

The enterprise blockchain company Ripple has been actively managing its Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin, with recent reports highlighting significant minting activities and strategic global expansion. According to the most recent data, Ripple minted an additional 10 million tokens in early September, marking the first such event for the month. This follows a previous issuance of 15 million tokens on August 29. Throughout August, Ripple's minting activities totaled 60 million tokens, predominantly launched on the Ethereum network. During the same period, 20 million RLUSD tokens were permanently removed from circulation (burned), resulting in a net increase of 40 million RLUSD tokens for August.
These operational movements coincide with RLUSD's impressive market performance. CoinGecko data indicates that the stablecoin's market capitalization currently stands at $711 million, having recently surpassed the $700 million level. Ripple achieved the milestone of adding an additional 200 million tokens in just over a month. The highly regulated stablecoin, initially launched in December, had already surpassed $500 million in total assets by late July.
