Republic Day is meaningless until all loots are recovered - Solomon Owusu
Solomon Owusu, Convener of Oral Must Work Team
Solomon Owusu, the convener of the group known as the ORAL Must Work Team, has said holding an annual celebration of the nation's Republic "without dealing comprehensively with the plain thievery will turn our forebears in their graves."
“Our forebears will curse their stars for wasting their time, energy only to witness a group of Ghanaians only come to positions of authority to betray their trust,” Mr Owusu said in a press release issued on Tuesday July 1, 2025.
He asked John Dramani Mahama, the president, to focus his prayers on addressing the long list of discovered corruption accusations and cases.
“Mr. President as you pray and offer Thanksgiving, your prayer line must be directed at how on earth the Management and the Board including staffs of the erstwhile NPA led by Mustapha Hamid, the man who said ‘Wolaaahi Wolaaahi this country must be rescued’ allegedly could dissipate funds belonging to the state and still be walking about freely,” Solomon Owusu stated.
IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE.
OUR REPUBLIC DAY IS MEANINGLESS UNLESS AND UNTIL ALL LOOTS ARE RECOVERED,ORAL MUST WORK.
Today is Republic day and we are glad and will rejoice in it. We thank our forebears who fought for this day. The founding fathers of this nation did not want us to be ruled by anyone else but ourselves.
The founding fathers of this country were of the view that the colonial administration led by the Queen were just misusing our resources anyhow and so needed Ghanaians to manage their own affairs.
Yes, Ghana had its independence on the 6th of March 1957,but decisions were still being taken by the Queen. We became a sovereign nation only on the 1st of July,1960 when we achieved a republican status.
The country becoming a sovereign one is the more reason why nobody should attempt to change or create new history. As a country never again must we attempt to distort history by relegating the significance of this day to the background. 1st July is so relevant which ever way you look at it. Members of Oral Must Work team therefore would want to thank the President and his team for restoring the holiday status of this day except to say that though the Oral Must Work believes in prayer, the National Day of Prayer is not made to crowd the true meaning of the day.
Mr. President and fellow countrymen, it must not be lost on all of us as to why our forebears fought so hard for this day. Our forebears envisaged a corrupt free society where the resources of this country will be used to benefit the people of this country. They realized how unguarded the Brits were shipping our gold, timber, diamond, manganese etc out of this country to develop theirs and so shed blood to get us this day.
We indeed succeeded in attaining our sovereignty but the question that one will ask is has the Sovereignty brought any dividends to the teeming Ghanaians? The answer is an emphatic NO.
Corruption, selfishness, greediness, thievery is what is the order of the day perpetrated by Ghanaians who have been put in positions of authority to help alleviate poverty.
The Oral Must Work team therefore is of the opinion that celebrating today without dealing comprehensively with the plain thievery will turn our forebears in their graves. Our forebears will curse their stars for wasting their time, energy only to witness a group of Ghanaians only come to positions of authority to betray their trust.
Mr. President since today is a republic day that we are supposed to pray and also offer thanksgiving, I do not want to bore you with plenty list of issues you must make sure you and the government pray to God for direction.
Mr. President am sure you have heard Wontumi’s case that he is yet to be prosecuted. The Buffer Stock is also another beauty where Hanan and the wife are alleged to be involved in gargantuan crime in the nature of stealing.
Mr. President as you pray and offer thanksgiving, your prayer line must be directed at how on earth the Management and the Board including staffs of the erstwhile NPA led by Mustapha Hamid, the man who said “Wolaaahi Wolaaahi this country must be rescued” allegedly could dissipate funds belonging to the state and still be walking about freely.
Mr. President let your prayer today reveal to you how the National Lotteries Authority in the past raped the agency and how the current administration are doing everything to shield that canker.
Mr. President as for the National Health Insurance Authority, we may need a B-2 bomb prayer because the kinds of rot that was left there beats any imagination.
Mr. President, the youth of this country says yes they are in support of the prayer and thanksgiving but your prayer topics should include how the Nana Akufo Addo’s administration was able to sell Uranium that had been purchased since the 1960’s in connivance with professors at the Ghana Atomic Energy who should have known better. This one beats imagination.
Dear Lord, as the nation prays led by the President, let the outcome be how best we can effectively deal with officials of State who decided to sell government lands especially those at the CSIR. They have sold lands belonging to the state with impunity.
As for the National Service scandal we have been assured by the Attorney General that this month they will be in court so we await but Mr. President the EPA scandals involving past administration worry me a lot.
Mr. President if selling of Akpeteshie by GIHOC can incur debt then note that corruption is real.
The Oral Must Work Team believes that any head of government agency who is yet to expose any corruption within his or her sector also wants to steal and Mr. President that must be a clue to you as to those of your appointees who are likely to be corrupt.
Oral Must Work Team has not forgotten the actions at the Ministry of Communication and its agency the NCA regarding the KelniGVG.
We urge the President and his government to as it were ensure that monies and assets belonging to the State are recovered without fear or favour.
As our signing off note, the Nabco that they claim employed 100,000 people never did and same is with the YEA that they claim has 45,000 employees. Is only inflated figures for chop chop.
As for Cocobod and what has happened there, if nothing is done there, we shall invoke the spirit of the land to chase anyone who stole our monies through inflated contracts.
Oral Must Work Team is still giving this administration the benefit of the doubt that it will deliver. The President must note that the teeming youth that voted for him, did so because they believe their monies and assets are missing and needs to recover them. The teeming youth of this country will feel fulfilled should the loots be recovered because is out of the recovered loot that they can get their jobs from.
Oral Must Work extends greetings to Ken Ofori Atta for being bold to disrespect the country by dishonoring invitations and also want to remind the former boss of National Scholarship Secretariat that Oral Must Work Team greets him for all the pain he has brought unto this country by way of corruption.
