Reps Speaker offers ₦100m start-up capital to artisans in his constituency
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, has provided a start-up capital of ₦100 million for graduates of vocational and skill acquisition programmes in his Zaria constituency.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of students from the Zainab Ahmed ICT/Vocational Centre in Zaria—part of events marking his second anniversary as Speaker—Abbas explained that the gesture is aimed at empowering the graduates to establish their own businesses.
Reflecting on his early upbringing, the Speaker remarked that true progress begins in the classroom, the skills centre, and within the minds of young people determined to rise above their circumstances.
He said this philosophy underscores his commitment to expanding educational opportunities across communities in the Zaria constituency.
Abbas noted that the world’s greatest entrepreneurs, innovators, and problem-solvers are no longer limited by geography but are defined by their knowledge, abilities, and how they leverage technology to transform lives.
He said: “Across Africa and right here in Nigeria, we see young people building successful businesses online, offering freelance services to clients across the world, developing mobile apps that solve everyday problems, harnessing digital marketing to grow small businesses, and using online learning to gain new skills in fields that
were once out of reach.
“With a laptop, a phone, or a simple internet connection, our youth are breaking barriers and becoming part of a truly global economy. This is the practical power of ICT—it puts the future in your hands.”
Addressing the graduates, he continued: “To our graduating trainees, I am proud of your achievements. You are the proof that when young minds are given the chance to learn, there is no limit to what they can accomplish. Take what you have learned here and build on it. Do not stop. Let this be your launchpad to greater things. Let your ideas soar.
“Create businesses, design solutions, and open doors for others. I believe in you. I see the future in your eyes. I know you will make us proud.”
The Speaker expressed gratitude to his constituents in Zaria for their trust, prayers, and partnership, which, he said, have made his milestones possible.
