Dambai (O/R), June 27, GNA- Domestic Violence and victim support unit of the Oti Regional command has charged Ghanaians to report any child abuse cases to the unit.
Detective Lance Corporal, Mr. Destiny Selormey, DOVVSU unit urged the public to report all child abuse and its related violence to their outfit for proper redress and appropriate sanctions.
Speaking in a community engagement to create awareness on the negative effects of Gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting human rights of all children, he said there was the need for stakeholders to take responsibility for preventing and addressing GBV, ensuring that perpetrators were held accountable.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Corporal Selormey noted that, the physical harm from child abuse could cause victims intense emotional damage and severe social problems such as school brawls, drug use and juvenile delinquency.
Corporal Selormey stated that ‘creating a safe and non-abusive society is a collective responsibility, I call on every Ghanaian to join the campaign and make Ghana a safer place for every child’.
He said child abuse was a serious sin and crime, whether committed in school, home or religious institutions.
