Remembering Noel Scullion: 'Life is what it is'

Published 2 months ago1 minute read

The untimely and unexpected passing of Noel Scullion this week brought a wave of sadness and reminiscence across the community of Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne. Not least amongst the students he had taught in Cross and Passion College over decades and who, clearly, in their messages of condolence on RIP.ie, remember him with an exceptional fondness.

In October 2012, Noel sat in my living room and talked about his life to that point. It was for the opening article in a short series, People of the Holly Bush. Kieran Behan did the photographs, capturing the personality of his subjects in brilliant black and white. I remember that interview as one of the most pleasant I had undertaken in my life as a journalist. The result of that chat is here, and it seems appropriate to recall it now, in his own words.

Rest in peace.
