Record-Breaking £123M Barcola Deal: Liverpool Secures Star Forward

Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the significant acquisition of French forward Bradley Barcola from Paris St-Germain in a deal valued at up to £123 million. This landmark transfer positions the 23-year-old as one of the most expensive players in the club's illustrious history. The initial payment to PSG is £106 million upfront, with an additional £17 million available through performance-related add-ons. PSG had initially set a higher valuation of £145 million for the promising talent.

Barcola has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a comprehensive five-year contract at Anfield. He becomes the Reds' fifth summer arrival, joining new teammates winger Victor Munoz and defenders Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo, and Ifeanyi Ndukwe. Expressing his excitement about the move, Barcola stated, “I’m really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play.” He further articulated his ambitions, saying, “I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it’s one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that’s why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it.”

The versatile forward, who will proudly wear the number 29 shirt, primarily operates from the left wing but possesses the ability to play across the entire attacking line. His arrival is strategically vital for Liverpool, bolstering their offensive capabilities following the departure of star forward Mohamed Salah, the long-term injury sustained by Hugo Ekitike, and the potential exit of Cody Gakpo. Barcola enjoyed an impressive and productive campaign last season with PSG, where he netted 13 goals and provided seven assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. His international contributions are also notable; he featured in all eight of France’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, scoring three goals as Les Bleus advanced to the third-place play-off. He initially joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 for a reported fee of £38.5 million, during which time he amassed an impressive collection of silverware, including three Ligue 1 titles, two Champions League trophies, two French Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

The final financial agreement of Liverpool’s deal with PSG also incorporates a provision to cover a solidarity payment that PSG owes to Lyon, stemming from Barcola’s original transfer to the French champions. This transfer underscores Liverpool’s strong intent to continuously strengthen their squad with proven attacking talent, ensuring they are well-equipped for the challenges of the upcoming season.
