Reading & Leeds Festival rocked by fan frenzy over 'secret' headliner reveals!

Reading and Leeds Festival 2025 is generating significant buzz among fans, not just for its announced headliners like Travis Scott, Bring Me the Horizon, and Hozier, alongside an exclusive UK headline festival appearance by Chappell Roan, but also for widespread speculation regarding a series of secret performances. Secret sets have long been a common feature of these twin festivals, fueling excitement and debate among festival-goers, with usually at least two varying-sized acts each year.
Eagle-eyed fans have pinpointed several bands as potential surprise acts. Among the strongest contenders is British rock band Wolf Alice. Reddit users noted a significant gap in Saturday's schedule on the Festival Republic stage and linked this to the imminent release of Wolf Alice's fourth studio album, "The Clearing," on Friday, August 22. This timing has led many to believe that the London-formed four-piece will take to the stage for an unexpected performance.
Similarly, Australian electronic rock band Pendulum is another name frequently mentioned in secret set discussions. Fans have observed that Pendulum is currently touring and also releasing their newest album, "Inertia," on the same Friday, August 22, aligning with the festival weekend. This confluence of events has convinced many that Pendulum could also be planning a surprise appearance.
Perhaps the most significant speculation revolves around rock giants Foo Fighters. Fans were sent into a frenzy after noticing the 2025 lineup poster appeared more sparse than in previous years, leading to theories of a potential surprise slot. This theory gained considerable traction when the band itself made a throwback post on Instagram, featuring their 2019 Reading Festival performance and directing fans to the full set on the BBC iPlayer. While many expressed excitement, some on the Leeds Festival Community Reddit page remained skeptical, citing that it has been years since a "huge headline band did a secret set." The Foo Fighters have a long history with the festival, headlining multiple times since 2002, including in 1995, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2012, and 2019.
More recently, a "giveaway" clue on the festival's official Instagram account has led fans to believe that Chase & Status will be performing a secret set. The post reportedly featured a silhouette of two people with question marks, which many revellers immediately identified as resembling the electronic duo. Rumours specifically point to a special happening at 19:30 on the Aux Stage at Reading.
However, not all news from the festival front has been positive. American rockers House of Protection confirmed they would no longer be performing due to unforeseen financial constraints. The band stated on Instagram that most of the funding for their trip was dependent on a performance at the Heavy Music Awards, which was unfortunately cancelled due to serious health issues affecting a key team member. Expressing their devastation and apologies to fans, House of Protection assured their supporters that they are already planning to return to the UK in October to tour with Architects, promising to make it up to those who were looking forward to seeing them.
