Reading & Leeds Festival Explodes with Secret Set Rumors: Fans Hunt for Clues from 'Massive Bands'

The Reading and Leeds Festivals, twin musical events held over the same weekend, are once again generating significant buzz among fans as the 2025 edition approaches. With a star-studded lineup that includes Travis Scott, Bring Me the Horizon, Hozier, and Chappell Roan making her exclusive UK headline festival appearance, attendees are now convinced that several prominent acts have been secretly booked to perform unexpected sets across both festival sites. Secret sets have long been a commonplace tradition for these festivals, adding an element of surprise for avid gig-goers.
Speculation is rife on various online forums, particularly Reddit, regarding potential hidden performances. One prominent theory points towards Brit rock band Wolf Alice. Fans believe their appearance is a logical possibility given the release of their fourth studio album, "The Clearing," tomorrow, Friday 22. This sentiment is echoed by multiple users who see a strong chance of the London-formed four-piece taking to the stage.
Similarly, Australian electronic rock band Pendulum is also a strong contender for a secret set. Enthusiasts have discussed the band extensively, noting that Pendulum is currently touring and is also set to release their newest album, "Inertia," tomorrow, coinciding with the festival weekend. The timing of these album releases fuels the belief that these bands might use the festival as a platform for an unannounced performance.
Adding to the excitement, fans of The Foo Fighters have been sent into a frenzy over perceived gaps in the official Reading and Leeds Festival lineup poster. Many interpret the lineup as more sparse than in previous years, leading to the belief that the popular American rock band could be planning a surprise appearance. This theory gained significant traction after The Foo Fighters themselves posted a throwback video on Instagram this week, showcasing their 2019 Reading set with a caption encouraging viewers to watch the full performance on the BBC iPlayer. While some Reddit users remain skeptical, citing the rarity of such massive headline bands performing secret sets, the band's history with the festival—having headlined multiple times since 1995—lends credence to the speculation.
More recently, a "give away" clue on the festival's official Instagram account has led revellers to believe that Chase & Status will make a secret appearance. The post featured a silhouette of two people adorned with question marks, which many fans quickly identified as resembling the electronic music duo. Discussions on Reddit indicate strong anticipation for a "special something" happening at 19:30 on the Aux Stage at Reading, with numerous comments pointing to Chase & Status.
However, not all news from the festival front has been positive. American rockers House of Protection have regrettably confirmed their inability to perform at this year's Reading & Leeds Festivals. The band announced via Instagram that they were forced to change their plans due to unforeseen money issues. A significant portion of the funding required for their trip was contingent upon their performance at the Heavy Music Awards, which was unfortunately cancelled due to serious health issues affecting a key member of the awards team. While devastated to disappoint fans, House of Protection assured their supporters they are already planning a return to the UK in October for a tour with fellow band Architects, demonstrating their commitment to their fan base despite the setback.
