Rain in south may cool city | Chennai News - The Times of India
Chennai: The
pre-summer season
in March may begin on a pleasant note in the city and suburbs as there is a chance of cloudy weather bringing the day temperatures down between Feb 27 and March 1. The cloudy weather is due to rain activity in south and south coastal Tamil Nadu districts, where IMD has forecast heavy rainfall on Feb 28 and March 1, due to a
cyclonic circulation
hovering in the atmosphere. Private forecasters and bloggers said the city and suburbs may also receive light rainfall at the end of Feb.
"Maximum temperature is likely to be 2°C-3°C above normal at isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu from Feb 24 to 26 and a slight fall is likely during the subsequent two days on Feb 27 and 28," an IMD bulletin said.
On Tuesday, the city and suburbs may experience mist/haze during the morning hours. Temperature may be around a maximum of 32°C-33°C and a minimum of 23°C. Skies may be partly cloudy.
IMD has forecast rainfall to start over coastal areas on Feb 26. Experts said the city and suburbs may receive light rainfall between Feb 27 and March 2.
"The cyclonic circulation will travel from the Andamans and the adjoining areas to Sri Lanka and south Tamil Nadu. The rain activity will be more in the south compared to the north. But Chennai may receive some light spells," said Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist, Skymet Weather.
"Day temperatures may drop by 2°C in and around the city. But night temperatures may rise and even touch 25°C," said blogger Pradeep John.
