Queen of Pop's Reign Continues: Janet Jackson to Receive Prestigious ICON Award!

Music icon Janet Jackson is set to receive the prestigious 2025 ICON of the Year Award at The Gala of the Stars, an annual benefit event dedicated to supporting Dancers Against Cancer. The esteemed ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 21, at the luxurious Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The award is a testament to Jackson's profound and unmatched influence across the realms of music, dance, and culture. A statement released by the organizers highlights her continued advocacy for compassion, empowerment, and artistic excellence, which are central to the recognition. Jackson's illustrious career has consistently interwoven dance and movement, a fact underscored by her impressive eleven music video nominations for best choreography at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The presentation of this significant award will be made in person by the legendary Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winner Liza Minnelli. Minnelli, herself a performer strongly associated with dance, shares a long-standing friendship with the Jackson family and was particularly close to Janet’s late brother, Michael Jackson. Guiding attendees through the black-tie event will be dancer, choreographer, and instructor Maksim Chmerkovskiy, widely recognized for his extensive tenure as a professional partner on the hit television series, Dancing With the Stars.

Adrian Ruiz, president of The Gala of the Stars and Dancers Against Cancer, articulated the profound resonance of Jackson's selection. In a statement, Ruiz remarked, “Janet Jackson represents everything this award stands for — strength, innovation, compassion and an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity. Her influence transcends generations. Honoring her at this year’s gala not only celebrates her legacy, but also her enduring impact on the dance community and the power of using art for good.”

Dancers Against Cancer, the beneficiary of the gala, was founded in 2012. It operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a vital mission: to provide crucial financial assistance, emotional support, and foster community connection for dancers, teachers, and choreographers who are bravely battling cancer. Those interested in attending, exploring sponsorship opportunities, or staying informed about event updates can visit the organization’s official website.
