Queen of Pop Dominates UK Charts: Taylor Swift Lands Double No. 1 with 'Patient Zero' and 'The Life of a Showgirl'!
Taylor Swift has achieved a U.K. chart double with her deluxe album "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore Edition," with the album returning to No. 1 and her new single "Patient Zero" debuting at the top. This marks a significant week for Swift, adding to her impressive list of chart-topping achievements.
Taylor Swift has achieved a significant U.K. chart double following the release of "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore Edition" on Friday, October 2. This deluxe version of her album, which dropped on September 25, features four new tracks: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.” The success was further amplified when Swift premiered the music video for “Patient Zero” at the 2026 MTV VMAs, where she was also honored with the inaugural artist director prize.
“Patient Zero” immediately soared to the top spot on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart in its debut week, marking Swift’s third No. 1 single of 2026, following "Opalite" and the "Toy Story 5" track "I Knew It, I Knew You." The other new additions also performed well, with “Cleveland!” securing the No. 3 position and “Babylon” landing at No. 4.
On the Official Albums Chart, "The Life of a Showgirl" made a triumphant return to the No. 1 position, marking its fifth non-consecutive week at the summit. The original album had previously spent four weeks at No. 1 upon its initial release in October 2025, spawning two Official Singles Chart No. 1s: “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.” This latest achievement brings Swift’s total career No. 1 albums on the Official Albums Chart to 14. Furthermore, the album set a new record for opening-week total units in the U.S. with an astounding 4.002 million, according to Luminate, leading to its No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200.
While Taylor Swift dominated, other artists also made their mark. British grunge-rockers Keo debuted at No. 2 on the Official Albums Chart with their album "Put a Smile on Me," despite leading the midweek updates. The band is set to embark on a sold-out U.K. headline tour in October, culminating in a performance at London’s O2 Brixton Academy in March 2027. Southend-formed rockers Nothing But Thieves secured the No. 3 spot with "Stray Dogs," while Olivia Rodrigo’s "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love" claimed No. 4, and Michael Jackson’s "The Essential" hits collection rounded out the top five at No. 5.
On the Official Singles Chart, following her win at the 2026 MTV VMAs, Sienna Spiro’s “Great Expectation” landed at No. 2, and Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” finished at No. 5, completing the week’s top chart performances.
