For the first time, players in Africa can enjoy smooth, low-latency gameplay thanks to new local servers in Nigeria and South Africa.
This major upgrade reduced lag, improved connection stability and enabled lightning-fast matches for millions of players.
According to Brian Gu, Head of PUBG Mobile Africa, the new server selection feature allows players to choose between regional and global matchmaking with a single tap.
“We developed this based on the needs of African players — they deserve a precise, millisecond response time,” said Gu.
The investment ranked PUBG Mobile as one of the few global games to build its African infrastructure and demonstrates a strong commitment to long-term growth on the continent.
But it’s not just about technology. The game also celebrates African identity. A new in-game outfit inspired by the traditional Maasai Shuka lets players represent their heritage on the battlefield in style. Bold colours and patterns bring a sense of pride and tradition directly into the game.
With a nod to African pop culture, PUBG MOBILE has turned the viral TikTok dance "Mapangale" into a playable emote. The energetic move called Afro Frenzy lets players celebrate victories with a local flavour.
This spirit of honouring tradition went even further with the introduction of Mancala, the old African board game.
It will soon be available as a playable mini-game, bringing a familiar, strategic touch to the digital world and connecting the past with the present.
In addition to updates and cosmetics, PUBG Mobile said it is organising one of the biggest event seasons Africa has ever seen.
The Airdrop Festival Carnival kicked off in July with giveaways such as Infinix smartphones and Oraimo accessories.
The Africa Cup tournament is already in full swing, with national teams competing for top honours ahead of the final on 13 and 14 September.
In August, the TikTok x PUBG Mobile Dance Challenge invites fans to post their best moves and win weekly prizes.
The company said the expansion is not just an upgrade, but a milestone shaped by the voices, cultures, and energy of Africa’s gaming community.
“For Africa, By Africa” isn’t just a tagline—it’s the foundation of a new era. PUBG MOBILE is placing African players at the center, creating a game that looks, sounds, and plays like home.
