Promoter's Plea: Warren Insists Joshua-Fury Venue Crucial for Mega-Fight!

The highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between boxing giants Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, dubbed the 'Battle of Britain', faces potential postponement due to an ongoing disagreement regarding the fight's venue. Frank Warren, promoter for Queensberry, expressed confidence that the eagerly-awaited clash is still on track for November, despite lingering uncertainties about where the event will ultimately be staged.

Initially, Wembley Stadium in London was considered the frontrunner to host the monumental bout. However, complications arose concerning the proposed start time, leading to a re-evaluation of location options. Currently, Madison Square Garden in New York has emerged as a strong contender and is now considered the favorite. This shift is largely influenced by Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh, who believes that a U.S. venue would better serve a wider global audience for such a significant event.

However, this proposed change of location has not been met with universal approval. Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua's promoter, recently stated that they would not have signed the contract if the fight was slated for America without prior discussion. Hearn emphasized the necessity for a 'discussion around that' before any final commitment to a U.S. venue. Responding to Hearn's comments, Frank Warren reiterated on Box Nation, "Tyson Fury has his agreement, which states something different. The fight will happen." He further clarified the situation, stating, "I've heard what Eddie has said. They're either going to agree to it or not. If they don't agree to it then the fight won't happen." This underscores the critical nature of the venue agreement for the fight to proceed as planned.

Despite these recent venue-related tensions, the fight has already experienced delays. Tyson Fury reportedly signed for the fight back in January, with an initial plan for it to take place in September. Both fighters were also scheduled to have warm-up bouts in September. Unfortunately, Anthony Joshua's warm-up fight was held up due to a 'terrible, tragic accident' in which he lost two of his best friends, causing a significant delay in the overall schedule. Despite these hurdles, the current understanding is that the fight is expected to occur in November, with the definitive venue announcement anticipated in due course, once an agreement is reached between all parties involved.
