Princess Kate's appearance at Wimbledon 2025 stole all the spotlight on Saturday. Following Amanda Anisimova's devastating loss at the tournament, Princess Kate was spotted consoling the player as she was defeated at the hands of the world's number eight, Iga Swiatek. The American tennis icon suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat in 57 minutes on Centre Court.

After receiving the runner-up trophy from the Princess of Wales, the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Anisimova tried to speak into the microphone but was overwhelmed by emotion. While Kate, the wife of Prince William, is the patron of the All England Club and has regularly attended the men's and women's finals, she consoled Amanda Anisimova after the loss.

However, Kate did not attend last year's women's final while she was recovering from cancer.

On Saturday, Princess Kate was greeted by a standing ovation from the Centre Court crowd as she entered the Royal Box just before the final match between the eighth-seeded Swiatek and number thirteen Anisimova began.

As the match concluded, the princess participated in the trophy presentation on court, handing the runner-up the trophy and then presenting the Venus Rosewater Dish to Swiatek. This is when she also offered some words of encouragement to Anisimova, who was in tears after the one-sided defeat.

In a heartfelt five-word remark, the Princess of Wales appeared to utter the words, "You should be so proud," as the teary-eyed US tennis star received the runner-up trophy.

The 24-year-old paused briefly before giving a gracious and emotional speech, in which she praised her opponent and expressed her gratitude to her mother.

Further, she told Swiatek, “You’re such an incredible player. It obviously showed today. You’ve been such an inspiration to me—an unbelievable athlete. You’ve had such an incredible two weeks here. Getting to the final of your first Wimbledon and winning the championship—it’s so special. Congratulations to you and your team."

“Thank you to everyone who supported me since my first round match here. It’s been such an incredible atmosphere. You guys have carried me through this entire championship."
