President Tinubu Embarks on Historic Two-Day State Visit to UK

President Bola Tinubu will visit the United Kingdom for two days starting Tuesday, March 17, 2026. He was invited by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
This is the first official visit by a Nigerian leader in 37 years. President Tinubu will also be the first Nigerian president to meet the British monarch at Windsor Castle.
From March 18 to 19, the Royal Couple will host President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor Castle for official events.
The visit is all about strengthening the strong relationship between Nigeria and the UK.
President Tinubu and the First Lady will meet King Charles III at Windsor Castle, where they will see a special exhibition of items celebrating Nigeria’s rich heritage.
The leaders will have private talks and meet groups that promote interfaith dialogue and the visit will end with a Grand State Banquet hosted by the British Royal Family to honour the Nigerian delegation.
President Tinubu will meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street to strengthen ties between Nigeria and the UK.
They are expected to sign agreements on trade, investment, defence, and cultural exchange.
A key part of the visit is a £746 million deal to renovate Nigeria’s two busiest ports: the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.
The deal involves UK Export Finance, Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance, and the Nigerian Ports Authority.
This visit aims to boost cooperation and bring real improvements to Nigeria’s infrastructure.
President Tinubu’s visit highlights Nigeria’s culture and economy. He will attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition to celebrate the country’s art and join a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders and diaspora members to strengthen connections.
He will be accompanied by top officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and other ministers in charge of culture, trade, defense, and more.
President Tinubu’s historic visit to the UK comes with tight security with the Thames Valley Police, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other partners are making sure the president, his team, and the public stay safe.
Airspace over Windsor is restricted, and anyone who breaks the rules could face criminal charges. After the visit, President Tinubu will return to Nigeria.
