President re-nominates 4 MDCEs for Greater Accra
The new nominations will still require approval by at least two-thirds of members of their respective assemblies.
The re-nomination was announced in a statement signed and issued by the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, last Thursday, May 15, 2025.
It said the President’s action was in line with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
The nominees are Ignatius Godfred Dordoe for the Shai Osudoku District Assembly, Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams for the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly, Dr Michael Mensah for the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, and Alfredos Nii Anyetei for the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LADMA).
The statement indicated that the re-nominations formed part of the government’s commitment to ensuring continuity and stability in local governance.
The nominees will have to be approved by their respective assemblies in accordance with the law.
For Ayawaso West, Dr Mensah polled nine votes, representing 47 per cent of the vote, out of 19 eligible voters made up of six government appointees and 13 elected assembly members, while 10, representing 53 per cent, voted “NO” in the election.
At Ayawaso Central, Mr Collingwood-Williams secured only six votes, representing 35 per cent at the assembly sitting.
Eleven of the assembly members voted “NO”, while one of the assembly members was absent.
For La Dade Kotopon, Mr Anyetei received five “YES” votes out of the 14 assembly members of LADMA who voted for his confirmation, while nine voted "NO".
Interest will particularly focus on La where the nominee, an administrator at the Regional Maritime University, seeks to overturn his previous miss.
