President of EBID urges NiBS graduates to lead Africa's innovation drive
Dr Donkor, who also serves as Chancellor of NiBS, made the call during the university’s inaugural graduation ceremony held in Accra on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The occasion, themed “Leaders of Thought, Architects of Growth,” marked the graduation of 58 pioneering doctoral scholars from twelve African countries.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Donkor underscored the need for visionary leadership grounded in research and practical solutions, especially in a global environment characterised by volatility, economic uncertainty, and rapid technological change.
“In a world marked by volatility, economic uncertainty, technological shifts and global realignments, I implore you to lead responsibly and boldly apply the research training you have acquired in informing public and business policy,” he stated.
He urged the graduating scholars to champion innovation that not only drives economic development but also safeguards the welfare of the vulnerable in society. “We must promote policies that solve urgent problems and protect the most marginalised among us,” he added.
Dr Donkor described the ceremony as a significant moment for higher education in Africa, stating that the success of NiBS’ first cohort demonstrated the potential of African-led institutions to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s intellectual and leadership development.
“As an institution committed to Africa’s progress, EBID recognises the vital importance of nurturing homegrown expertise,” he said. “When we invest in developing Africa’s human potential, we lay the strongest foundation for sustainable growth and regional integration.”
He noted that EBID has invested millions of dollars in educational development projects across ECOWAS member states to reinforce the central role of education in economic transformation.
The graduates earned doctoral degrees in business innovation, financial technology, and development policy, fields identified as critical for Africa’s sustainable advancement. The ceremony also marked the launch of the NiBS Global Alumni Network, intended to foster continued collaboration among scholars now poised to influence change in policy, business, and social development across the continent.
NiBS, Africa’s first doctoral-only business university, aims to become a hub for advanced research and leadership training in key sectors of the continent’s economy.
