Premier League Giants Battle for Player of the Season Crown!

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has been named among the eight elite nominees for the Premier League Player of the Season award for the 2025/26 campaign, capping a remarkable season that saw him shine for two different clubs. The Premier League officially unveiled this prestigious shortlist on its website, placing Semenyo alongside some of the division’s most prominent stars.
The distinguished list of the seven other nominees includes Arsenal’s formidable trio: defender Gabriel, goalkeeper David Raya, and midfield engine Declan Rice. From Manchester City, prolific marksman Erling Haaland received a nomination, while Brentford’s powerful striker Igor Thiago, Manchester United captain and creative hub Bruno Fernandes, and Nottingham Forest’s dynamic playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White complete the stellar lineup.
Football fans now have the unique opportunity to cast their votes for their preferred player, with the polling period extending until Monday, May 18. The ultimate winner of this coveted award will be determined through a combination of the public vote and the expert judgment of a specially convened panel of football specialists, with the final result anticipated to be announced in the subsequent week.
The Premier League’s official citation for Semenyo’s nomination particularly emphasized the unusual and highly impressive nature of his 2025/26 season. The Black Stars forward commenced the campaign in spectacular form while representing AFC Bournemouth before completing a high-profile transfer to Manchester City during the January window. As noted in the league’s write-up, “Semenyo played a starring role for two clubs this season.”
Upon his arrival at Manchester City, Semenyo made an immediate and significant impact, quickly adapting to his new environment. He recorded an impressive tally of three goals and one assist across just five Premier League appearances in February, a performance that culminated in him winning his first EA SPORTS Player of the Month award, underscoring his rapid integration and effectiveness.
Furthermore, the citation lauded the 25-year-old’s exceptional tactical versatility, which has proven to be an invaluable asset to Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing squad. He has consistently impressed in a variety of attacking positions, including on both wings, as a central forward, and even in midfield roles, seamlessly slotting into Guardiola’s demanding system as Manchester City aims to hunt down Arsenal in the intensely competitive title race.
With Arsenal currently leading at the top of the table, Semenyo’s pivotal contributions have been crucial for City as they strive to narrow the points gap in the concluding weeks of the season. His remarkable capacity to instantly adapt to Guardiola’s intricate tactical demands—and to deliver decisive, high-stakes performances amidst the pressure of a championship pursuit—has significantly elevated his standing from a promising talent to a truly established Premier League star. As public voting commences, Semenyo faces formidable competition from renowned superstars like Haaland and Rice, yet his unique dual-club heroics and rapid ascension make him one of the most compelling and intriguing candidates on this season’s prestigious shortlist.
