Political Showdown: ODM Bows to Tribunal, Protecting Sifuna

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has recently reversed its decision regarding the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as party secretary general. This significant development occurred before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), where ODM's legal representatives conceded to orders that effectively blocked the senator's ouster. The party's legal team, headed by Tom Kajwang’, informed the acting chairperson of the PPDT, Gad Gathu, that ODM would not contest the continuation of the conservatory orders. These protective orders have been in effect, safeguarding Senator Sifuna from any attempts at removal, since February 12.

This concession marks a notable turn of events in the internal politics of the Orange Democratic Movement, ensuring Senator Sifuna retains his influential role within the party for the foreseeable future. The decision by ODM's legal team to back down underscores the influence of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal in mediating and resolving internal party conflicts, thereby upholding established legal frameworks within Kenya's political landscape.
