Political Showdown: Ex-Rep Danmaliki Slams Tinubu's Restructure Plan!

Hon. Aminu Mohammed Danmaliki, a former member of the House of Representatives from Bauchi State, has issued a press statement addressing a widely circulated report concerning alleged far-reaching constitutional changes proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The viral report claimed that the President was planning significant reforms, including the potential renaming of Nigeria, the abolition of Sharia criminal law, and a comprehensive restructuring of the country.

Danmaliki acknowledged that these allegations had incited widespread reactions and concerns across Nigeria. However, he strongly urged citizens to differentiate between factual information and emotional responses to prevent undue tension. He highlighted that while public apprehension regarding such sensitive topics is entirely understandable, there currently exists no credible evidence to substantiate these claims. Furthermore, he noted that the Presidency itself has reportedly denied the existence of any such constitutional reform proposal.

In his statement from Bauchi, Danmaliki underscored the critical importance of relying on verified information, stating, “However, it is important that we separate facts from emotions. The Presidency has reportedly denied the existence of such a proposal, and until credible evidence is presented, Nigerians should avoid conclusions that may unnecessarily heighten regional, religious, or political tensions.” He emphasized that matters pertaining to Sharia law, the framework of federalism, religious freedom, resource control, and the fundamental structure of Nigeria are inherently sensitive issues that demand a cautious and responsible approach.

According to the former lawmaker, any form of constitutional reform that seeks to affect these delicate areas must be preceded by extensive consultations, a comprehensive national dialogue, and the meticulous building of consensus among all relevant stakeholders. He issued a stern warning that no reform process can genuinely succeed if it is perceived as targeting or undermining the identity, deeply held beliefs, or legitimate interests of any particular section of the country. Danmaliki further affirmed the necessity to protect and respect the constitutional rights and legitimate interests of all regions and faith communities within Nigeria.

Concluding his remarks, Hon. Aminu Mohammed Danmaliki appealed to Nigerians to maintain calm, diligently verify information before sharing it, and actively engage in constructive dialogue instead of resorting to inflammatory rhetoric. He reiterated that Nigeria's rich diversity ought to serve as a profound source of strength rather than a catalyst for division, urging all citizens to champion unity and foster responsible communication within public discourse.
