Political Earthquake: Ex-Senator Marafa Dumps APC, Blasts Tinubu Over Zamfara Neglect

Former Senator Kabiru Marafa, who previously represented Zamfara Central in the 7th and 8th Senate, has officially resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Marafa, who also served as the Zamfara State Coordinator for the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organisation in the 2023 presidential election, announced his departure along with his entire political structure across the 147 wards in Zamfara. His resignation, concluded after a two-day consultative forum meeting in Kaduna, was a direct protest against what he described as the sustained injustice, mistrust, marginalisation, and deliberate neglect of Zamfara State and its people by the APC.
A primary catalyst for Senator Marafa’s departure was the worsening insecurity in Zamfara State. He vehemently accused the APC government of neglecting residents, failing to protect lives and property, and abandoning the people to defend themselves against persistent attacks. Marafa lamented that despite President Bola Tinubu's explicit promises during the 2023 presidential campaign to address insecurity, and even selecting a Defence Minister from Zamfara and the northern region, two years have passed with no significant change. He highlighted a stark contrast between the government’s inaction during brutal attacks—such as the slaughter of over 40 people in villages weeks before a bye-election—and the deployment of heavy security, motorcycles, and money into communities solely to secure votes for the APC during elections, notably in the Kaura Namoda bye-election.
The communique issued by the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum detailed grave concerns over the deteriorating security, political, and developmental conditions in Zamfara. It cited alarming statistics, including that 1,203 of the 4,722 people kidnapped in Nigeria in 2024 were from Zamfara, and referenced reports by Zamfara Circle Community Initiatives documenting attacks on 25 villages in one week, with 145 people abducted and 21 killed. Marafa accused the APC-led government of politicising insecurity, prioritizing electoral victory over the well-being of citizens. He condemned the federal government for doing nothing to protect the people while spending heavily on vote-buying during elections.
Beyond insecurity, Marafa criticised President Tinubu, describing him as a
